It seems the Phillies are determined to prove me wrong and simply will not go away. Last night’s fortuitous and correct call of interference against former Phillie and Prattville, Alabama’s own Marlon Anderson (I used to live there, believe it or not, and probably went to elementary school with him) set the Phightins up for a potential four-game series sweep against the hated Mets tomorrow afternoon. A win and they’re only two games back of New York in the NL East.

I still maintain that winning with their atrocious pitching staff is unsustainable in the long-run, but the long-run keeps getting shorter as August comes to a close. The only good pitcher they’ve got will be back in the rotation soon. On the other hand, the Mets are likely getting Pedro Martinez back for the stretch run as well. Those pesky Braves cannot be counted out either.

It should be an exciting last month of the season and our Phillies are right in the thick of it again. Too bad I’m already resigned to idea that history will repeat itself yet again.
