Witness

Harrison Ford gives one of the best performances of his career as Philadelphia detective John Book in his first pairing with director Peter Weir (see The Mosquito Coast for their second collaboration and Ford's finest hour). Witness is a remarkable narrative about the collision of two extremely different cultures: the sacred and flawed world of the Amish, and the profane and equally flawed world of western civilization. Beautifully photographed in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, Witness, at its heart, is a poignant love story between two people whose communities are only 60 miles apart, yet so culturally and ethically distant that they are ultimately forced to remain in their own worlds.
